Cultural Boundaries is a place for me to explore my interest in cross-cultural research through my own lens as I travel to other countries and explore local places that arouse my perception of other people’s culture. These experiences offer me a chance to delve deeply into the abundant smells and flavors of food and the rituals that surround eating; the beauty or unusual nature of the arts; or the contrast between the old with new architectural changing landscapes; or the spiritual practices of the people, and more. In this first stage I take a journey through three major cities in China: Beijing, Macau and Hong Kong, each of which has their own unique character. Michele Y. Washington is interested in researching the impact of cross-cultural design and the interface of how user of products, and designers can best utilize research to effectively address ethnic communities, as well as the role architecture, urbanism, visual and material culture, fashion and plays in our every day lives.
